belly-heartHappy Happy HUMP day, Swagger Crew!
(Oh wait, it’s Thursday. What do they call Thursday? Anyone?)

As odd as the title is, today’s post is actually a PSA (Public Service Announcement) to educate both sexes with the goal of…what else? Better sex!

Are you down with that?!

First though, we have to announce the winners of our “100 Reasons Why We Love Sex” 100th Anniversary post:

Sandra Daily
Lori Gonzales
Angela Adams
Michelle
All Seasons Cyclist
Emily Allen
Jennifer Britt
Dana Hinton
Sarah Dawson
Ana Morgan
and Liz Everly

YAY! Thank you everyone for adding to the fun discussion. Chick Rachael will be in touch soon (if not by Sunday, that means your email address bounced, so give us a head’s up in the comments.)

Now on to your PSA!

So, I got this fun-with-your-cervix idea after Rachael’s guys have big bananas post (*snicker, snort*) where she so eloquently stated: “You knock the head of your banana against that [cervix] too many times and you’re likely to get kicked out.”

Amen, sister.

So…a cervix. Y’all know what it is? Don’t be squeamish. It’s the lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina. It has an opening to allow sperm and menstrual fluid to move through. And here’s the deal that many people, including women, don’t know…

The position and texture of the cervix changes throughout a woman’s cycle, with it being the softest, wettest, and highest (closer to top of the vagina) during ovulation when it’s more open and pliable to suck in those little swimmers should they happen to be there.

That’s why us girls can take more, um…thrusting (and like it) during ovulation. :D

On the opposite end of ovulation we move through the follicular (menstruation) and luteal phases. During these phases, heavy knocking on the door of the cervix by the penis isn’t very comfortable because the cervix is closed, lower down in vagina, and much more firm (like the tip of your nose), but I don’t know how many men actually understand that if a woman has never explained the way it works.

For many couples this might be the “it feels like you’re fucking my womb” conversation.

I’m here to change all that! Yay!

Knowing what phase you (or your woman) is in can help you determine what kind of position might feel the best during sex. So, how do you know where that spongy little donut is, you ask?

Well, I got up close and personal with my own cervix when my hubby and I were trying to get preggers, so I gots the no-sweat details for you…

How to Check Your Cervical Position

-       Wash your hands and get into position, girls! Some to try are: sitting on the toilet, squatting, standing with one leg on the edge of the bathtub. Whatever position you use, be consistent every time you check.

-       Gently insert a finger into the vagina and press upward until you feel the top. With practice you will start to notice changes as you go through the month. Again, at the height of ovulation, the cervix is SHOW: soft, high, open, and wet. For some women, the cervix gets so soft it blends in with the vagina and it can’t be felt at all. (Aren’t our bodies amazing?!) During this time of the month, most women notice heavier cervical mucus (a yuck word for a yummy process) – the closer to ovulation the more it looks like egg white.

sperm

Incidentally, this is your prime bow-chica-wow-wow time to have sex if you want to get pregnant. If not, you’d dang well better put a glove on that thang, boys, because our bodies are all like welcome to the tournament, sperm! May the best swimmer win!

-       Once ovulation occurs, the cervix begins to drop and become more firm and closed.

Neat-o, huh? So now you know how that sweet little body part works, what sexual positions work best for different times of the month?

Sex positions for shallower penetration (ie. When you’re NOT ovulating)

Girl On Top: This one can be shallow…or deep. She’s in charge here, so she can decide how deep she wants the penetration.

Spooning: Face the same direction and lay side by side. Raise your top leg so the guy enters from behind.  Your tush keeps him from pushing too far in, so not only are you good to go when the cervix is low, but the head of his penis is more apt to rub on that wonderful G-spot.

Hip Flexer: Both of you are seated, facing one another. The woman straddles the man with her legs on either side of his hips while her butt is still on the bed (or floor or wherever). The guy also bends his legs. When one person leans back, the other does more work. You can experiment with depth in this position the same as Girl On Top.

Standing missionary: Stand upright facing one another with her back against a wall.  She lifts one leg slightly as he bends his knees as needed to facilitate entry. She can press down with her hips slightly to stoke the shaft of her clitoris against his shaft as he slides in and out.

On Your Knees She lies on her back with her legs together. He kneels (or squats) over her and rubs lube between her thighs before sliding inside.

And if you’re feeling really acrobatic…

The Erotic Accordion: Your lover lies on his back and lifts his knees toward his chest. Facing him, you squat down and straddle his legs so your thighs are hugging his. Lower yourself onto his penis — the closer he draws his knees to his chest, the better access you’ll have to his main accessory. Bend at your knees and move yourself up and down.

Got all that? Next we have…

Sex positions for deep penetration (ie. during ovulation)

orgasm

Ooo, the Stand & Deliver position is so yummy! When was the last time you indulged?
This one goes deep, so save it for SHOW time!

Classic Missionary: Yeah, yeah, it’s traditional, but it really allows great thrusting depth, especially if the woman’s hips are propped up with pillows. (For more fun with pillows see Realistic Kink for the Girl Next Door. Part Trois.)

Doggy Style: The woman can rest on her elbows to allow even deeper penetration. The man can also stand on the floor for mega depth.

One Folded leg: The woman lies on the bed with one leg folded against the chest of the man and other on the floor. Yeah, you need to be a little flexible for this one.

Legs on Shoulder: Go slow with this one because it puts the woman in a tremendously vulnerable position. Here the woman lays back on the bed or some other surface and places both of her legs on the shoulders of the man while he stands on the floor. Variations of this include placing your feet on the man’s chest or bending your knees.

The Pole, AKA: the Thighmaster: Doesn’t that sound yummy?! It is! The guy lies on his back and bends one of his legs, keeping the other outstretched. The woman straddles the raised leg with a thigh on either side and then lower herself onto the guy so that her back is toward the guy. From here, she should hold his knee and use it for support as she rocks up and down.

Is it getting hot in here?!

For more information (and loads of educational photos – dude) there’s a whole website devoted to cervix appreciation called Beautiful Cervix (I kid you not.).

So go on and get friendly with your cervix. And be sure to let us know…which position sounds most interesting to you?
